#2 "A thousand miles seems pretty far / But they've got planes and trains and cars"

Hi!

I really don't have anything special to write about, I'm just spending time, which seems to run veeeery slowly. Only 37 days in Finland left. That feels sad, but at the same time I'm excited and happy to go there. Every morning I wake up smiling and thinking "one day less left" and I couldn't be happier.

Yesterday I checked the distance between my current hometown and my new hometown in USA. The result was about 7200 kilometers (4473 miles). That's pretty far away to move the first time from home. But as the song "Hey There Delilah" says, "they've got planes and trains and cars". I have thought the fact that I really need to grow up and start acting like an adult and being one. I have always been quite independent because I don't have any siblings, so I've been a lot by myself. But moving to a different country needs a lot more than that.

We all have seen stereotypical American movies. I'm rapt to see are these stereotypical things same in the real life. My head is full of questions. You know, like "Does every party have those famous red party cups?" "Is everything bigger in USA?" "Are there really as much drama as in the movies?" "What about the Greek life?" "Big football games with flags and cheerleaders?" "Cliques in the school?" The questions are roaming in my head.

Funny. It already feels like I'm going home, but still leaving home. Well, one can have two homes, right? :) (In fact three. French Riviera is my home no. 3.) I remember counting the days to going to France last year and I counted from 86 days left. Those 86 days went quickly, though I was sure they would had run too slowly. My countdown "Moving to USA" shows only 37 days. Only a month. Can't. Wait. Anymore.

Jeez, that was boring. But as I said, just spending the time (which goes way too slowly). I hope I have more to say at the next time. Have a nice day/evening/morning/[choose your own time of day] guys, see you later! :)

#1 Welcome to my blog!

Hi everybody!

So, welcome again. I should start with introducing myself and my blog, so here it comes:

I'm Iiris, an 18-year-old girl from Finland. My life is going to change a lot, since I'm moving to The United States of America and I'll start studying in Northern State University, as an undergraduate student, majoring in International Business. I'll do the whole degree (which lasts for 4 years). Northern State University is located in South Dakota, in the city of Aberdeen.

You might wonder, where does my blog's name come from. Northern State University's mascot is a wolf, and its students are called as "wolves", so I'm going to be a little wolf. And a little one because I'm only 160 cm tall (5'2''). The prairie could be explained with googling "south dakota prairie". Yup, there's a lot of prairie in South Dakota. So, now you know the roots of the name "Little Wolf on the Prairie".

I decided to start a blog of my American experience because I love writing and I'd love to share my thoughts and experiences with the people interested in hearing of my student life in America. I'll probably continue writing in English, but I can also translate some of the texts into Finnish, if requested.

And what I'm going to write about?
I'm going to write you about the highlights of my everyday student life. Studying, making new friends, partying, enjoying the American life... If you got interested, continue reading my blog by checking the upcoming new posts. I'll try to write as often as I can, but at least once in a week. All positive comments are welcomed :)

See you soon!
